Weeknotes No.69
Short week this one, i’m on leave Thursday and Friday - but thats another post I’ll discuss one day.
I am currently knee deep in delivery mode, if I wasn’t mastering Figma before, this past 6 months I’ve been safe in the knowledge there isnt much getting past me at the moment, the odd design mistep, like completely dismantling sense for the sake of “nicer UX”, to forgetting we have a component already, the usual.
Work has been pretty hectic, but as normal, do not think that a moan - busy is good, moving in the direction of delivery and having a clear goal in sight is even better and we’ve got this.
Want a rollout plan? We’ve made one. Want to know what i’m working on next, and next and then even next? We’ve planned it out.
Will I need cups of coffee, new playlists on Spotify and regular snacks? YES. Send coffee, send playlists.
What have you all missed?
I handed over the latest design mocks, and had support and feedback throughout the way - but it’s time to let it go and see what the wider team think before it gets close to development time, I fully expect and want feedback from all corners, rip it apart, kick it down the street - throw those rocks, often said to many folks - I’m the least precious designer ever, I want to deliver good work that is used by users and they know how to use it!
Working closely with the developers has been so good, let me rephrase that - these are some of the best developers I’ve worked with, working closely with great developers has been so good, they keep any design changes on the straight and narrow and allow me to plan better, design nearer to the actual build and this also allows me to keep any wild ideas in check (scope creep is a big no-no).
Life check - watching my daughter do 11 hours per week of synco swimming is amazing, and a highlight of my week. She is bloody amazing, and I’m not one of those dads who thinks the sun shines (but I’m her biggest supporter ever). The improvement I’ve seen over the last couple of years has been nothing but short of inspiring, and she has returned from 6 weeks off with a completely different mentality, swim till you are knackered.
What am I looking forward to?
Getting my hands on redesigning Bobbin and Bumble, which is a long time overdue - I wouldn’t say I’m looking forward to developing on the Shopify platform (its lack of proper preview whilst coding is a little rubbish.. it’s there but not without its vast shortcomings). Keep an eye out for this.. i’ll also be trickling updates via LinkedIn if the boss allows… (if you know, you know).
Watch of the week
I love watching World War 2 documenarties, and World War 2 from the front lines is breathtaking. It has views, personal videos and opinions from all corners, not just Britain or America, and it’s horrible to watch (as it should be) and some scenes just made me whimper for those concerned. Recommend it, more as an “educate yourself” viewing.
